Winter View from Old Fashioned Window

Happy New Year and all the best for the coming year. This is not the easiest time of year, the days are still short and the weather in many of our countries is harsh and cold. But even in winter weather there is beauty, as today's window view poster shows.

In this window photography the scene outside is of a chilly day, snow falling thick and deep over a garden and the large tree that grows in it. This wintery day is brightened only by the pair of colorful glass soda siphon bottles, one in green glass and one in a pretty pale blue.

This image made me think. Like the glass that adds cheer to bleak winter weather which otherwise makes the world seem drab, you have to look for glimpses of beauty. Garden birds adding flashes of color when the flowers are hidden beneath the soil. A patch of blue revealed in a cloudy sky. A stray ray of sunlight giving a little warmth.

And isn't it the very fact that these things are hider to find at this time of year that makes us treasure them? Sometimes we don't see the riches we have until they are removed from us.

Of course, if you live in a warmer climate you may not have to look so hard for these uplifting treasures that nature offers us. But all of us can add our own colorful touches like this bright and cheerful glass to our own windows and living spaces to lift our hearts on the dullest days.

Notes on the photography: This image was photographed by Stephen St. John, a photographer who has an eye for the unusual and surprising in everyday nature and manmade scenes.
